He was one of the people who welcomed me into the field of international education through Region XII of NAFSA (California, Nevada and Hawaii): Association of International Educators. He was one of the people who welcomed me into the field and NAFSA.<br />He was a model of how one can be both powerful and gentle. He made a significant difference in the lives of many at SDSU and NAFSA by having a powerful philosophy of the importance of all people and the important impact of student learning through study abroad by US students and for international students to study in the US. <br />Ron was a very balanced individual who always took time to say hello and give others the feeling that they were important and that their contribution to the field was important as well.<br />Ron was a colleague that will be missed. I surprised Ron and Jane at the office by not announcing ahead of time. Ron and I had a great chat inside his office, but he said "if you told us earlier, we'd have done something special." I am happy that I have visited him after all these years, because in previous times, I was a bit too anxious so I didn't pay them a visit.<br /><br />This came as a total shock to me. I was notified by my friend Rofiee on Friday who also knows Ron way back. We were International Students back when, and time flies.<br /><br />What they have done at the International Student Center / Office / Council have been very inspiring to me. So much so that one of the first things I have done when I moved to this new location I founded a community project mimicking the International Festival (now International Village), however, that didn't work out because of other reasons.<br /><br />I consider Ron and Dave Neptune some of the most influential people in my life growing up.
